As a victim to monthly migraines, I wanted to pass along some of my tips to keep migraines away. Below are five tips to help prevent the painful migraines most of us have had exposure to at some point.
Eat More Often. When you wait too long to eat, your blood sugar levels dip and then can lead to the triggering of a migraine. Try and keep healthy snacks around to grab on the go, so you’re never too depleted or desperate. No one wants a migraine in the middle of a meeting! Also, work to stay very hydrated. Not drinking enough water is the surest cause to a headache.
Take a supplement. After doing some research, if you supplement your diet with any combination of vitamin B2, magnesium, coenzyme Q10 and/or the herbs feverfew and butterbur it can also help. Although it seems like a lot, test a few out and see what works best for you.
Keep up with the cardio. Working out helps keep everything in order. Those who cycle or workout in ways that embrace a lot of cardiovascular activity are likely to have the upper hand over awful headaches. Try to workout at least a couple times a week, integrating cardio into your routine.
Try not to stress as much. Stress is a huge reason why people (including myself) get those darn migraines. It’s not the actual stress it seems but when you are coming down from the stress. Cortisol dulls pain, so when those levels fall migraines may kick in. Pace yourself and plan your schedule so you don’t have to be as stressed.
Have some more romance. It’s long been a belief that sex can help get rid of migraine symptoms. This belief can be due in part to the release of endorphins during sex, which also comes with exercise.
